Men's Basketball Set to Visit BGSU on Saturday

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan men's basketball team concludes a stretch of four out of six games on the road to begin conference play on Saturday afternoon as it visits Bowling Green.

ON THE ROAD AGAIN
Western Michigan completes a stretch of four of its first six games on the road to begin conference play on Saturday afternoon as it visits Bowling Green. The Broncos are 2-1 on the road during this stretch. 

LAST TIME OUT

The Broncos were dealt their first conference loss of the season on Tuesday night as they fell at Akron, 77-66. Jefferson De La Cruz Monegro tied his season with 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting, including 3-of-4 from downtown, to lead the way for Western Michigan. 

BALANCED BRONCOS
For the sixth consecutive game, each Bronco who saw action made his way onto the scoresheet, as each tallied at least three points. Jefferson De La Cruz Monegro led the way with 17 points for WMU, while Javonte Brown and JaVaughn Hannah each contributed 10 points apiece off of the bench.

OFFENSE CLICKING
During its 4-1 start to conference play, the Western Michigan offense has taken things up a notch, averaging a league-best 81.4 points per game against MAC foes. The Broncos have upped their shooting percentages as well, ranking fourth in league play in both overall field goal percentage (.480) and three-point percentage (.371).

SUPER SOPHOMORE
Seth Hubbard has paced Western Michigan in scoring nine times this season and netted double-digit points in 14 of WMU's 17 games. The sophomore is the leading scorer for the Broncos this season and is tied for eighth in the conference at 16.3 PPG.

BATTLE ON THE BOARDS
Western Michigan has been one of the top rebounding teams in the MAC all season and have won the rebounding battle in seven of the last eight games. Heading into the weekend, the Brown and Gold lead the conference in offensive rebounding (12.3), rank second (behind Bowling Green) in total rebounding (37.5) and are tied with BGSU for second in rebounding margin at +2.9 per game. The Broncos have stepped up their rebounding efforts in conference play, ranking atop the league in total rebounding (39.0) and rebounding margin (+6.6). 

SHARING IS CARING
WMU has been sharing the basketball well all season long, as it ranks third in the league at 14.1 assists per game. The Broncos have taken that up a notch in league play, as they're averaging 15.6 assists per game, second-best in the league. Both B. Artis White and Jefferson De La Cruz Monegro rank among the league leaders in assists, with White ranking sixth at 3.3 per contest and De La Cruz Monegro 12th at 2.8. White is also fourth in the conference this season with a 1.7 assist-to-turnover ratio.

DIALING LONG DISTANCE
Western Michigan is one of two teams to have a pair of players in the MAC's top-10 for made three-pointers. Seth Hubbard ranks second in the conference at 2.6 per game, while B. Artis White is 10th at 1.9. The Broncos have made at least one three-pointer in 408 straight games dating back to 2011. 

SERIES HISTORY
Bowling Green holds a 75-51 lead in the all-time series between the two programs, including a 42-19 mark at home against the Broncos. Western Michigan has won three of the last four meetings, including each of its last two visits to the Stroh Center. 

WHEN LAST WE MET
These two teams got together just once last season, with Western Michigan scoring 69 second-half points to overcome a double-digit halftime deficit and come away with a 108-92 victory at University Arena. The Broncos had six players score in double-figures, led by JaVaughn Hannah's career-high 24 points. The game marked the first time WMU had scored 100 or more points in a conference game since a double overtime win at Buffalo in January of 2008. 

HOMEWARD BOUND
Following their visit to Bowling Green, the Broncos return to Kalamazoo next week for meetings against in-state foes Eastern Michigan (Jan. 23) and Central Michigan (Jan. 27).
