Men's Basketball Inks Latvia Native Janis Jünemann

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan head men's basketball coach Kahil Fennell has announced the signing of Latvia native Janis Jünemann.  
 
A 6-11 center, Jünemann is set to head to Kalamazoo after spending the last three seasons with BG Göettingen, which currently plays in ProA, the second-tier of professional basketball in Germany. In 32 games this season, he tallied 5.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 0.8 blocks per contest in just 13.0 minutes of action while shooting 51.3 percent from the field.
 
In his first two seasons with the club, Göettingen played in Basketball Bundesliga, the top level of professional basketball in Germany. After appearing in three contests his first year as an 18-year old in 2023-24, Jünemann saw action in 33 games in 2024-25 and picked up 2.7 points and 2.2 rebounds per game while shooting 50.8 percent from the floor.
 
Jünemann also has experience at the international level, having played for Latvia in the 2024 FIBA U20 EuroBasket Division B. In seven games at the tournament, he averaged 3.9 points and 5.9 rebounds per contest.
