Broncos Bring in Transfer Tanner Hayhurst

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan head men's basketball coach Kahil Fennell has announced the signing of Southern Utah transfer Tanner Hayhurst.   
 
A 6-6 wing, Hayhurst arrives in Kalamazoo after spending his junior campaign at Southern Utah. He played in 31 games for the Thunderbirds, starting 26, and totaled 10.3 points and 3.4 rebounds per contest while hitting 48.9 percent from the field, 46.1 percent from three-point land and 87.7 percent from the foul line. His free throw percentage ranked fifth in a single season in program history, while his three-point percentage was the sixth-best mark in a single season for SUU. He hit 88.0 percent of his free throws in conference play to lead the WAC and was a College Sports Communicators Academic All-District selection.
 
Before Southern Utah, Hayhurst spent a season at the College of Southern Idaho, where he played in all 32 games and started 30. The Eagle, Idaho, native averaged 10.9 points and 5.4 rebounds per contest to help the Golden Eagles to a 22-win campaign. He appeared in 11 games as a freshman at BYU during the 2023-24 season.
 
Hayhurst prepped at Eagle High School, where he was a four-year varsity starter. A two-time First Team All-SIC honoree, he led the Mustangs to the state tournament while pacing Idaho 5A in scoring in both his junior and senior seasons. As a junior, he notched 18.0 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.7 assists per contest while hitting 50 percent from the floor, 41 percent from three-point range and 80 percent from the charity stripe on the way to a Second Team All-State selection. He improved his numbers to 22.1 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game as a senior while shooting 54 percent from the floor, 48 percent from downtown and 81 percent at the foul line to garner First Team All-State honors.
