Men's Basketball Adds Transfer Markhi Strickland

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan men's basketball program and head coach Dwayne Stephens have announced the signing of Markhi Strickland, a transfer from Victoria College.

A native of Miami, Fla., Strickland brings two years of eligibility with him to Kalamazoo. He is the third newcomer for Western Michigan for the upcoming 2023-24 season, joining fellow transfer Brandon Muntu (Triton College), as well as incoming freshman Michael Sulaka (Macomb, Mich.).

"Markhi is a great addition to our program," Coach Stephens said. "He is a strong, super athletic wing who competes at a high level. He provides a lot of versatility for us on both sides of the ball. Markhi has a great personality and a great basketball background."

Strickland comes to Kalamazoo after spending this past season at Victoria College in Victoria, Texas. The 6-6 wing player started 28 games for the Pirates, posted 14.6 points per game and was the team's leading rebounder at 6.8 per contest.

Prior to his time at Victoria College, Strickland began his collegiate career at St. Louis University. He spent two seasons with the Billikens, playing in 21 contests and averaging 2.6 points. SLU made the NIT in both of Strickland's seasons there, and he played a career-high 18 minutes off of the bench in the team's 2022 NIT First Round game against Northern Iowa.

The son of former NBA player Mark Strickland, the younger Strickland attended Victory Rock Prep in Bradenton, Fla., as well as IMG Academy.
