TORONTO– Slan Sports Management is pleased to announce that Flenard Whitfield has signed a one-year contract with U.M.F. Skallagrimur Borganes in the Icelandic Dominos League.
Whitfield, a 6-7 forward, is coming off of his best of three seasons with the Orangeville A's organization in the National Basketball League of Canada (NBLC). In 37 games with the A's this season, Whitfield averaged 11.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game. He shot 47.4 percent from two-point field goal range and 33.1 percent from behind the three-point line. A Detroit, Mich., native, Whitfield attended Martin Luther King Jr. High School before starting his collegiate career at Western Michigan University. Whitfield averaged 5.5 points and 4.1 rebounds in his freshman year at WMU, earning Mid-American Conference (MAC) All-Freshman Team honors. Whitfield became a more prominent part of the offense by his sophomore year, averaging double-figures in scoring for his remaining three seasons. His best statistical year was his junior season, when he averaged 13.1 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. Whitfield helped lead Western Michigan to the MAC Tournament semifinals in 2010 and 2011 and was named an All-MAC Honorable Mention in 2011 and 2012. He finished his NCAA career with 1,211 total points.
In 2013, Whitfield started his professional career, a summer season with the Albury Wodonga Bandits in the South East Australian Basketball League. There he averaged 14.4 points and 8.6 rebounds per game. In the fall of 2013, he moved to Canada to join the Brampton A's, who eventually rebranded to become the Orangeville A's in 2015. Over three seasons with the A's, Whitfield helped the team to the second best record in the league in 2014 and the NBLC Semifinals in 2015.
Whitfield is excited to start his European career this fall and continue to grow as a player in Borganes.

In 2015-2016, Borganes won the Iceland Division I Championship, defeating Fjolnir in the league finals. For the coming season, they have been promoted to Iceland's top league, the Dominos League.
