KALAMAZOO, Mich.- Former Bronco men's basketball standout Shayne Whittington announced that he will continue his professional basketball career overseas.

The former Western Michigan star stated this past weekend he will play for Obradoiro CAB in Spain. The team competes in the ACB league with the likes of Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.

Whittington transformed from an under-recruited, small-town kid into an NBA player at Western Michigan. He began to turn heads during his junior season at WMU, where he was named Second Team All-Mid-American Conference and led the league with 12 double-doubles. In 35 games (all starts), he averaged 13.2 points and 8.8 rebounds.

As a senior, Whittington led the Broncos to a 2014 MAC regular season championship, a MAC Tournament title and an NCAA appearance. He was voted First Team All-MAC after averaging 16.1 points, 8.9 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.5 blocks per game over 31 contests.

Whittington was signed by the Indiana Pacers following his senior season and played in 27 NBA games over the last two years. He split time with the Pacers' D-League affiliate, the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, where he averaged 11.9 points and 7.9 rebounds in 30.5 minutes per game.

On his Instagram account on Sunday, Whittington said, "Really excited to announce that I'll be starting a new chapter in my life in Santiago De Compostela, Spain with Obradoiro CAB. Great league and a great opportunity for me and my family!"
