First Half

  • Starters: Ward, Douglas, Hutcheson, Richie, Stainbrook
  • Former WMU great Saddi Washington is now an assistant coach on the Oakland staff
  • The Broncos began the game on an 8-2 run, with three-pointers from Ward and Hutcheson
  • The Broncos started the half shooting 4-of-5 from three-point range, including a pair of three from Hutcheson
  • WMU shot a torrid 7-of-11 (.636) from three point range in the first half, with four players recording at least one triple
  • WMU out-rebounded the Golden Grizzlies 21-10
  • Matt Stainbrook had a team-high 10 points in the first half
  • Nate Hutcheson officially is credited as having played the entire first half
  • With his first assist of the game, Mike Douglas moved into sole possession of fourth place on the Broncos' career assists list, passing Jim Kurzen. The two had been tied at 373 assists apiece

Second Half

  • The Broncos responded to Oakland's opening 11-4 run with a 16-5 run to re-assert their lead at 20 points
  • Richie scored 16 points in the second half, which alone would have given him a new career high
  • The win was the 150th win for Steve Hawkins as head coach of the Broncos. He is one of just three coaches to have won 150 games at Western Michigan, joining Bob Donewald and Herbert "Buck" Read
  • Five Broncos players scored in double figures for the second time this season, the first being the Broncos' loss to Iona
