KALAMAZOO -- The Associated Press announced its men's basketball All-America teams today and Western Michigan senior David Kool was named AP Honorable Mention All-American.
The AP teams are generally recognized as the most prestigious of them all and Kool is only the second AP All-American in school history and just the sixth All-American overall.
Kool joins Mike Williams in 2004 (AP Honorable Mention), Gene Ford in 1969 (Helms), Manny Newsome in 1964 (Coaches Association), Don Boven in 1949 (Coaches Association) and Harold Gensichen in 1947 (Coaches Association) as WMU All-Americans.
Kool is also the only player in school history to be both an ESPN the Magazine Academic All-American and AP All-American.
The Mid-American Conference Player of the Year ranked 12th in the country with 21.6 points per game and 11th in the country in free throw percentage (.897).
Kool will next be in action April 7-10 in Portsmouth, Va., for the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament in front of scouts from all NBA teams.
