Kool and Reitz Named First Team All-MAC

CLEVELAND -- The Mid-American Conference announced today that Western Michigan sophomore guard David Kool and senior center Joe Reitz have been named First Team All-MAC Men's Basketball Team.

This is only the fourth time in school history that two or more Broncos (19-11, 12-4 MAC) have been named to the first team. The last time was Ben Reed and Mike Williams in 2004. Kool and Reitz join an elite group that also includes Jeff Tyson, Paul Griffin and Tom Cutter in 1976 and Earl Jenkins and Chuck Washington in 1971.

Reitz finishes his career as a four-time all-conference honoree after being named to the MAC All-Freshman Team in 2005 and Second Team All-MAC in 2006 and 2007. This season, Reitz ranked second in the MAC in rebounding (7.9 rpg), third in field goal percentage (.568) and seventh in scoring (15.0). In conference games, he averaged 15.4 points and 8.4 rebounds per game.

Kool earns his second All-MAC honor after being named 2007 MAC Freshman of the Year and 2007 MAC All-Freshman Team. Kool was fifth in scoring with 16.1 points per game and ranked fourth in free throw shooting at 85.6 percent. In conference games, Kool led the MAC in scoring with 17.8 points per game and was 11th in assists with 2.75 per game.

The Broncos open play in the 2008 First Energy MAC Tournament on Thursday at noon against No. 7 Eastern Michigan or No. 10 Ball State at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland.

There will be a pregame reception at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday in the Full Court Banquet Room on Level Two of Quicken Loans Arena. Cost is $10 and no reservations are required.
