Women's Soccer Heads to Ohio for Matchup Against Kent State

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Broncos are set to take on Kent State on Thursday night in Ohio. The game is slated to kick off at 7 pm at Zoeller Field. Western Michigan is 3-1-1 in road games this season, and 2-0-0 in MAC road games.

LAST TIME OUT
Western Michigan earned a 3-0 win against Toledo last Friday. The Broncos moved to a 2-0-1 record in conference play this season and 4-2-4 overall. The win pushed Lewis Robinson's career MAC record to 33-5-10. The Brown and Gold now hold a 20-1-5 record in conference play since the beginning of the 2024 season.

The Broncos scored all three of their goals within an eight minute period. Simone Sharpless, Gracie Lynn, and Kaiya Stewart were the goal scorers.

ROBINSON REACHES 50
Head coach Lewis Robinson earned his 50th career victory with the Western Michigan women's soccer program this past Friday in a 3-0 win over Toledo. Robinson has been an integral piece in guiding the Broncos to success since taking over the program in 2022. Now in his 5th season, Robinson has established WMU as a consistent contender in the MAC, highlighted by a 33-5-10 conference record and three consecutive MAC regular season championships.

The milestone victory came in shut out fashion, as the Broncos allowed only one shot on goal throughout the contest. With the rest of the conference schedule still left to play, Robinson is looking to continue the trends of recent years.

A MILESTONE DAY
Friday's victory against Toledo was a milestone day all around for the Brown and Gold. Freshman Simone Sharpless and Gracie Lynn each recorded their first collegiate goals in the 3-0 victory. Early in the second half, Kaiya Stewart forced the goalie out of position which perfectly set up Simone Sharpless for her first goal and putting the Broncos up 1-0. Minutes later, Sharpless found herself taking a corner kick where she perfectly placed the ball for Gracie Lynn to kick in her own first goal.

The milestone week was not over for Simone just yet, as she was later named the MAC Offensive Player of the Week. She is the first Bronco to earn MAC Player of the Week honors so far this season.

SCOUTING KENT STATE
The Golden Flashes sport a 2-6-2 overall record, and a 1-2-0 record in the MAC. Their conference win came against Miami in a 2-0 victory.

The Broncos lead the all time series against Kent State with a record of 9-8-3. WMU has won five of the last six matchups against the Golden Flashes. Heading into the game, the Broncos have not lost at Kent State since 2016.

The Golden Flashes are led on offense by Lila Simon, who has netted three goals thus far. Two of those goals were game winners for Kent State. In net the Golden Flashes split between goalies Emma Klein and Leah Shaffer. Klein has a 2.50 GAA and .677 save percentage through 5 games played while Shaffer sports a 0.83 GAA and .808 save percentage through her 5 games played.
