Gymnastics Hosts Illinois State on Friday and Kent State on Sunday in Pair of Podium Meets

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan gymnastics team hosts Illinois State on Friday at 5 p.m. and Kent State on Sunday at 12 p.m. for a pair of podium meets at University Arena.

Tickets are on-sale at www.wmubroncos.com/tickets. Both meets will be streamed live at www.wmubroncos.com/watch.

A SPECIAL KIND OF MEET
Last year, Western Michigan welcomed Central Michigan, Illinois and Wilberforce for the first-ever podium meet at University Arena. WMU also became the first program to host a regular season podium meet in the history of NCAA Gymnastics.

The world's most prestigious gymnastics competitions, including the Olympic Games and the NCAA Gymnastics National Championships, are held on an elevated stage called a podium. The Broncos had competed at neutral-site podium meets in the past before hosting their own last season. The elevated presentation of the event creates a unique experience for the competitors.

LAST WEEK
The Broncos were on the road at Eastern Michigan last Friday for a quad meet against the Eagles, Illinois State and Wilberforce. The Bulldogs had to forfeit due to illness, and the Broncos swept the field with a score of 195.275 to ISU's 194.675 and EMU's 195.200. Broncos topped the standings on vault, bars and floor.

SENIOR DAY
At the completion of Sunday's meet against Kent State, the Broncos will take time to celebrate the careers of their seniors Makenna King and Sidnei Heubach.

DUBS UP!
As a team, Western Michigan has picked up eight wins so far this season. Individually, Broncos have finished in or tied for first place 19 times on the season. WMU gymnasts have been most successful on vault and bars, winning the event in four meets. Reese Samuelson has won the most events on the season, claiming the top spot on bars three times and twice on beam.

WINDING DOWN
Western Michigan heads on the road to Rutgers for a quad meet to wrap up the regular season. The Broncos will compete against the Scarlet Knights, New Hampshire and Long Island.
