KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Sophomore goaltender
Hampton Slukynsky was named the NCHC Three Stars Award winner, the league announced this afternoon.
The Warroad, Minn. native picked up the award after earning 28 'three stars' points this season. He was the First Star of the Game four times, which was the most of any player in the league. Slukynsky is the first Bronco to win the award since Ben Blacker in 2016-17.
He edged out Miami's David Deputy for the award, as the two were the only finalists for the honor. However,
William Whitelaw (WMU), Max Plante (Minnesota Duluth), Ben Strinden (North Dakota) and Will Zellers (UND) were all tied for third in points.
The Los Angeles Kings draft pick leads the NCAA with 26 wins, while also being top 10 in the nation in total saves (885) and shutouts (4). He is also top three in the NCHC in both goals against average (2.27) and save percentage (.915). He was announced as a Second Team All-NCHC honoree yesterday afternoon.
Slukynsky has taken his game to another level over the last few weeks. The Broncos are 6-1-1 over the last eight outings, with Slukynsky posting a 1.84 GAA and .932 save percentage in that stretch.
For his career, Slukynsky ranks as one of the best Broncos ever. He is first in program history in GAA (2.12) and save percentage (.918), while being fourth in shutouts (5) and seventh in wins (45). He is a two-time All-Conference performer and helped the Brown and Gold win the National Championship last season.
