KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Bakersfield Condors have signed
Samuel Sjolund to a one-year AHL contract for the 2026-27 season.
The veteran defenseman served as an assistant captain for the Broncos in 2025-26, leading the Brown and Gold to a 27-win season and a fifth straight NCAA Tournament appearance. WMU was also a No. 1 seed for the third time in the last five years.
Sjolund spent four seasons with the program, playing in 119 games. In that time, the Swedish defenseman was able to produce 76 points on 13 goals and 63 assists. He added 87 blocked shots and was +31 throughout his career.
He played his best during his senior season, tallying a career high six goals to go along with 23 assists. He was named Third Team All-NCHC, finishing top six in the NCHC in points, goals and assists. Sjolund tallied three assists at the Loveland Regional.
During his junior season, he helped WMU win its first National Championship, Penrose Cup and NCHC Frozen Faceoff title. He had a career-high 25 assists to go along with four goals. He also added a career-best 36 blocks and +19 rating.
Sjolund was a four-time NCHC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete and won 105 games in his four-year career.
