KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Broncos are set to host Buffalo in a home contest on Sunday, Oct. 11. The game is slated to kick off at 1 pm at the WMU Soccer Complex.
LAST TIME OUT
It was a defensive battle at the WMU Soccer Complex as the Broncos fell at home on Sunday, Oct. 4 to Bowling Green by a final score of 1-0. WMU fell to 3-1-1 in conference play this season, and a 1-2-2 record at home.Â
MAC ATTACK
The Western Michigan women's soccer program has been the MAC's most productive offense through conference play thus far. The Broncos have scored a conference best 14 goals over their last five games, averaging a very productive 2.80 goals per game in the MAC.Â
The Brown and Gold also lead the MAC in shots with 75 total and corner kicks with 39 total. The production from the offense has come from all angles, as the Broncos have seen nine different goal scorers across conference play;
Tessa Fagerson,
Kaiya Stewart,
Camryn Huhn,
Simone Sharpless,
Gracie Lynn,
June Mullen,
Irelyn Sheldon,
Olivia Smith, and
Arianna Rose.Â
The balanced attack was on full display against Kent State on Oct 1. when the Broncos had seven different goal scorers en route to a 7-1 victory. With six conference games left to play, the Broncos look to continue their great stretch of offense.
ANYONE REMEMBER THE TITLE GAME?
This Oct.11 matchup against Buffalo will be the Bulls first trip to Kalamazoo since the 2024 MAC Championship, when WMU defeated the Bulls by a final score of 5-0. An Abby Werthman hat trick powered the Broncos towards the victory, with the Brown and Gold peppering 18 shots on goal throughout the contest.Â
This 5-goal margin stands as WMU's largest victory over Buffalo in their playing history. The victory completed WMU's MAC regular season and tournament championship sweep of the 2024 season, one the Broncos would defend in 2025. Heading into Sunday, the Broncos hope to see that same level of offensive production as Buffalo rides into Kalamazoo.
SCOUTING THE BULLS
Buffalo enters the contest on Sunday with a 4-4-4 overall record and a 1-2-2 record in MAC play. The Bulls have scored seven total goals this season while conceding 11 through their first 12 games played. Eva Blatz leads the offense with two goals and five total points, while Mae Hunt and Emma Patti each have four points.Â
Senior goalkeeper Lexi Thompson remains one of Buffalo's biggest strengths. Buffalo has already recorded seven clean sheets this season across a 0.92 GAA and a .807 save percentage from Thompson.
