Hockey Rises in Latest National Polls

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Thanks to a three-win week, including victories over No. 2 Wisconsin and a sweep of Notre Dame, the Western Michigan hockey team was able to rise in the latest national polls.

The Broncos jumped to No. 6 in both the USCHO poll and USA Hockey rankings, receiving a first-place vote in the USCHO poll. The Brown and Gold leaped over Denver in both polls. Michigan, Michigan State, Wisconsin, North Dakota and Minnesota Duluth made up the top five in both polls this week.

WMU was joined in the polls by several other NCHC teams, including, UND, UMD and DU. Colorado College, Arizona State, St. Cloud State and Miami were all receiving votes. Omaha was the lone conference team to not be recognized in the national rankings.

Western Michigan will take a five-game winning streak to Denver this weekend, squaring off with the Pioneers on Jan. 9-10. The two teams will begin the series on Friday at 9 PM ET at Magness Arena.
