KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan men's basketball team and head coach
Dwayne Stephens have announced the signing of Grand Rapids native Cameron Ryans to the program's 2026 recruiting class. Ryans is set to join his older brother EJ and the Broncos for the 2026-27 campaign.
"Cameron is a very competitive and high-energy player, who is a versatile defender and scorer," coach Stephens said. "He reminds me of Draymond Green with his passion and IQ for the game. What I like most about him is he's a winner on and off the court. We are adding a great player and student to our roster. We have great familiarity with his family and are excited to see him and EJ compete in a Bronco jersey together!"
A 6-4 guard, Ryans is gearing up for his senior season at Northview High School, the same school which produced his older brother, as well as current WMU freshman
Brady Swartz. He has been named a preseason candidate for Michigan Mr. Basketball.
Highly decorated already in his career at Northview, Ryans is a four-time All-Conference and three-time All-State selection. He has also been named to BCAM's Best of the "BEST" two years in a row and has twice been named the Grand Rapids Press Player of the Year.
In addition to his brother, Ryans has a pair of cousins who played sports collegiately, and both went on to the professional ranks. Demarkus Stuckey played college basketball at King College and Goshen, and has been playing professionally overseas since 2019. Another cousin, Clifton Ryan, played football at Michigan State and was then drafted by the St. Louis Rams in 2007. Ryan appeared in 49 games over four seasons with the Rams from 2007-10.
