KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan men's basketball team released the remainder of its non-conference schedule for the upcoming 2026-27 season on Monday.
"We are excited about our opening non-conference schedule," first-year WMU head coach
Kahil Fennell said. "This is a very challenging slate that takes us on the road to some big-time opponents, but also has some local flavor with three Michigan schools coming to town. We feel confident that this is a schedule that will prepare us for a bear of a conference slate in the MAC this season."
The Broncos begin the Coach Fennell era with the first game of the previously announced MAC-Sun Belt Challenge. The first game of the challenge is set for Opening Night, Monday, Nov. 2, when Western Michigan visits Old Dominion. This season's second challenge contest will be in Kalamazoo against a yet-to-be-announced Sun Belt Conference foe on Saturday, Feb. 6. The matchup for that game will be determined in January.
A few days after the opener on Nov. 5, the Broncos make their home debut under Coach Fennell against Kalamazoo College. WMU wraps up the opening week of the campaign against Campbell at University Arena on Nov. 8.
Western Michigan is then slated to hit the road for its next three contests, starting on Nov. 12 at Purdue Fort Wayne. The Broncos follow that trip up with visits to Southern Indiana (Nov. 15) and Mount St. Mary's (Nov. 20). WMU's final non-conference tune-up before the beginning of MAC play is set for Nov. 25 at University Arena against Grace Christian University.
Following a four-game start to the conference schedule at the beginning of December, Western Michigan steps back outside of league play for a pair of contests prior to the holiday break. The Brown and Gold host Great Lakes Christian College on Dec. 18, and then visit USC on Dec. 22. WMU resumes MAC play after the new year with a trip to Akron on Jan. 2.
