PORTAGE, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's golf team earned the overall team win at its home fall tournament on Tuesday.
Despite an almost two-hour rain delayed start to the third round, the Broncos kept pace at the top of the standings at Moors Golf Club on Tuesday. With a total score of 926 (+62) with rounds of 301-302-323, WMU tied with the Dayton Flyers who also carded a total score of 926. But sophomore
Saanvi Venkatesh earned the Brown and Gold the tournament title with a 56-hole score of 241 in 25
th place compared to Dayton's fifth golfer's score of 246 to give Western Michigan the tiebreaker. The tournament win was the first for Head Coach Matt Zedrik leading the Broncos.
Senior Megha Vallabhani tied with two other individuals for second place in her final tournament at Moors Golf Club. Vallabhani carded an 80 (+8) on Tuesday to finish with a final score of 225 (+9) along with Loyola's Reese Kite and Central Michigan's Ella Zanatta. Sophomore
Lauren Lupinek also finished inside the Top 10 for the Broncos at eighth with an overall score of 232 (+16) with rounds of 80-76-76.
Also contributing to WMU's overall tournament score of 926 was freshman
Danielle Daniy, who tied for 16
th after carding rounds of 75-79-83 for a total score of 237 (+21). Junior
Bella Brooks finished the team scores for the Brown and Gold with a round three of 84. Overall, Brooks placed 27
th with a total of 242 (+26) after rounds of 73-85-84.
Western Michigan had four individual players in its home tournament as well. Senior
Jenna Hayes had her best round of the week on Tuesday, shooting a 78 (+6) to end the Fall Classic in 31
st. Junior
Macy Beeson jumped up the leaderboard in the final round of play after carding a 78 (+6) to be tied for 16
th with a final score of 237 (+21).
Rounding out the Broncos tournament field was freshman
Lea Lemieux who shot a 91 (+19) on Tuesday to give her a final score of 253 (+37). Senior
Kailey White finished her last tournament at Moors Golf Club with scores of 89-87-85 for a total of 261 (+45).
WMU wraps up the fall season next week in the Buckeye State. The Brown and Gold will participate in the Dayton Flyer Invitational on October 13 and 14 to end play in 2025.
