KEWADIN, Mich. -- The Western Michigan University women's golf team completed its first tournament of the 2026-27 season on Monday afternoon, tying for fifth place at 900 (+36) strokes.

The Broncos opened their new season with multiple Top 25 individual finishes and moved up one spot in the team rankings at the A-Ga-Ming Invitational. Over the holiday weekend, WMU shot rounds of 298-300-302 for fifth along with Murray State and Loyola Chicago. Leading the team for the Brown and Gold from round one to round three was sophomore Danielle Daniy, carding a 56-hole career low of 223 (+7). Daniy ended the tournament tied for 16th with rounds of 74-73-76. Right behind Daniy was freshman Annie Flavin with an overall score of 224 (+8) at 19th while junior Saanvi Venkatesh rounded out Western Michigan's Top 25 finishes, ending the weekend with 226 (+10) strokes. 

Flavin had a strong start to her first collegiate tournament, shooting at par (72) for her first round as a Bronco. She followed up her first round with back-to-back rounds of 76 to tie for 19th with four other individuals. Like Daniy, Venkatesh recorded a career-low through 56-holes at 226 after carding rounds of 76-74-76. Junior Lauren Lupienk shot 18 spots up the individual rankings during the final round, shooting two above par at 74. She ended the tournament tied for 34th with 230 strokes in three rounds of play.

Rounding out the WMU team score was senior Bella Brooks, who shot a 239 (+23) through three rounds of 76-87-76. Of the Brown and Gold's individual competitors, freshman Abigail Stendahl had the highest finish as she tied for 56th following rounds of 77-78-81 for a total of 236 (+20) strokes. Fellow Western Michigan newcomer Katie Pill was five strokes behind Stendahl at 241 (+25) carding rounds of 82-81-78. Sophomore Lea Lemiuex finished right behind Pill with a final stroke total of 243 (+27) after rounds of 84-78-81.

Hosts Central Michigan won the team title at the A-Ga-Ming Invitational with a final of 868 (+4) after carding rounds of 283-292-293. Bowling Green junior Addison Kartusch won the individual title on Sunday as she finished at five under par with 211 strokes. 

The Broncos return to action in two weeks at the Mary Fossum Invitational only an hour and a half away from Kalamazoo. WMU will participate in the tournament hosted by the Michigan State Spartans from Sunday, September 20 to Monday, September 21 at Forest Akers Golf Club.
