Daniy earns MAC Female Scholar Athlete of the Week recognition

CLEVELAND -- The Western Michigan University women's golf team earned another weekly honor from the Mid-American Conference office.

Sophomore Danielle Daniy was named the MAC Women's Scholar Athlete of the Week on Thursday by a handful of league Faculty Athletics Representatives. Daniy is the first Bronco to be named a MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week in the 2026-27 academic year. She is also the first WMU player to earn the honor since January, when Audrey Smitek (women's tennis) was named the Female Scholar Athlete of the Week during the 2025-26 academic year.

Daniy was recognized for her career play at the annual Bronco Fall Classic on October 12 and 13. She became the first Western Michigan golfer to win an individual tournament in five years during the home tournament at the Moors Golf Club in Portage. Daniy was the only player in the 30-person field to finish under par across three rounds.

Daniy shot rounds of 69-72-71 for a tournament total of 212 (-4) to win the Bronco Fall Classic. Daniy's performance at WMU's home tournament was the second-lowest total for a 54-hole tournament in program history at 212. She also led the tournament field in birdies (12), par 4 scoring (even), and par 5 scoring (-4).

The Brown and Gold wrapped up the fall portion of their season earlier this week at the Edisto Island Invitational. Western Michigan will begin the spring half of its season in February at the annual Rio Verde Collegiate that the team hosts in Rio Verde, Arizona. The Rio Verde Collegiate is scheduled for February 19 through February 21.
