KEWADIN, Mich. -- The fall season begins this weekend for the Western Michigan University women's golf team.

After a record breaking campaign in 2025-26, the Broncos are looking to achieve new heights during the 2026-27 season. At the end of last season, WMU set a new program record for lowest team stroke average with an average of 304.3 through 11 tournaments. The Brown and Gold will look to break the record again this year, starting at the A-Ga-Ming Invitational on September 6 and 7 at the A-Ga-Ming Golf Resort. 

Returning from last year's program setting team are seniors Macy Beeson and Bella Brooks, juniors Lauren Lupinek and Saanvi Venkatesh, and sophomores Danielle Daniy and Lea Lemieux. Of Western Michigan's six returning golfers, half had career performances in 2025-26 for either an individual round or a tournament performance. Along with career performances last season, junior Lauren Lupinek entered the Bronco record books with four rounds at or below par for fifth most in a single season. 

WMU welcomes three freshman to the Brown and Gold for the 2026-27 season. Western Michigan adds two MHSAA Division I individual finalists in Annie Flavin of Plymouth and Katie Pill of Oxford. Flavin enters her collegiate career as the reigning MHSAA Division I Individual Champion while Pill had a career performance at the Individual Finals to place seventh last fall. Along with two in-state products, the Broncos also welcome Abigail Stendahl of Maple Grove, Minnesota. During her high school career, Stendahl was part of two MSHSL Class AAA State Championships in 2023 and 2024 followed by two Class AAA State Runner-Up finishes while earning All-State honors her senior season. 

The first tournament of the 2026-27 season is a familiar one for WMU as fellow Mid-American Conference team Central Michigan hosts the A-Ga-Ming Invitational. Over the two day tournament, the Brown and Gold will compete with 12 other teams including three MAC schools in the host Chippewa's, Ohio, and Bowling Green. Rounding out the holiday weekend tournament field is Detroit Mercy, Bellarmine, Indiana State, Oakland, Murray State, Wisconsin-Green Bay, Bradley, Loyola Chicago, and Chicago State. The 13 teams will play 56-holes over the two days beginning on Sunday at 9 a.m.

Western Michigan will have eight players competing in its opening tournament with its team of five golfers and three individuals. Competing on the team card are Daniy, Lupinek, Venkatesh, Brooks, and Flavin while Stendahl, Pill, and Lemieux will compete as individuals. Last year at the Broncos opening tournament, Brooks carded a career and program-best round of 66 (-6) in the final round of the tournament on the same course. The tournament will play the Sundance course at A-Ga-Ming Golf Resort, a 72 par and 6,136 yard course designed by Jerry Matthews in 2005. The course features views of both Torch Lake to the east and Lake Michigan to the west and includes windswept bunkers and noticeable mounding.

The A-Ga-Ming Invitational will run over two days beginning on Sunday, September 6 right before the Labor Day holiday. Sunday morning the Brown and Gold will tee off at 9 a.m. with live scoring available at scoreboard.clippd.com.
