Reigning MAC Tournament Champs Release 2025 Schedule

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The reigning Mid-American Conference Tournament champion Western Michigan baseball program and head coach Billy Gernon announced the team's 2025 schedule on Monday. WMU is set for 22 home contests at Robert J. Bobb Stadium at Hyames Field, its most since 2021. The Broncos, who are 22-9 at home over the last two years, have home MAC series against Eastern Michigan, Akron, Bowling Green, Central Michigan and Ohio, a non-conference home series against The Citadel, and host midweek tilts against Michigan State, Valparaiso and Goshen.

Coach Gernon and the Broncos have loaded up their non-conference schedules with power conference opponents in recent years, including 12 games last season against teams from the Big Ten, ACC and SEC. This season is no exception, as Western Michigan has 12 more teams from power conferences on its non-conference slate.

The Broncos open their campaign with 14 straight contests away from home, beginning from Feb. 14-16 with four games in three days at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C. WMU faces Michigan State on Opening Day, and follows that up with a twin bill against Dayton before closing out the weekend against Monmouth.

Western Michigan then heads to ACC country for each of the next two weekends. The Broncos visit Louisville for a three-game set from Feb. 21-23, and then travel to Atlanta from Feb. 28-March 2 for a three-game set against a Georgia Tech team which, like WMU, made the NCAA Tournament last season. The final tuneup before conference play comes in Nashville on March 4 as the Brown and Gold battle Lipscomb.

WMU opens up its Mid-American Conference schedule with a rematch of last season's MAC Tournament Championship Game at Ball State from March 7-9. The Broncos are then home for each of the next two MAC weekends, welcoming Eastern Michigan to town from March 14-16 and Akron from March 21-23. Sandwiched in between those two home series is a visit to Michigan on March 18. Western Michigan took three out of five from the Wolverines last season, including a last at-bat win in Ann Arbor.

The Brown and Gold start a five-game road swing on March 25 at Northwestern. March 28-30 sees WMU head to Miami for a three-game MAC series, with the trip then slated to wrap up on April 1 at Notre Dame.

Western Michigan begins an eight-game homestand from April 4-6 as it welcomes in The Citadel for a four-game non-conference series. The Broncos then host Goshen on April 9 before diving back into conference play with a three-game set against Bowling Green.

WMU opens a seven-game road stretch on April 15 at Michigan State. The Broncos spend the next two weekends on the road with conference series at Toledo (April 17-19) and Northern Illinois (April 25-27). Western Michigan returns to Kalamazoo to face Valparaiso on April 29, and welcomes in Central Michigan that weekend, May 2-4, for a three-game set. The Brown and Gold finish up their home-and-home with Valpo on May 6.

Western Michigan's final non-conference home game sees MSU come to town on May 7. The Broncos head to Kent State from May 9-11 for their final regular season road trip, and then close out the regular season with a three-game home series against Ohio from May 15-17.

The Broncos will look to defend their Mid-American Conference Tournament title from May 21-24 in Avon, Ohio. In last season's tournament, Western Michigan outscored its opponents 29-3 on the way to the second MAC Tournament title in program history and 13th NCAA Tournament appearance.

Among the returners from last year's MAC Championship squad is reigning MAC Tournament MVP Dylan Nevar, who led the conference and set a new single-season school record with 71 RBIs. The redshirt senior enters the season needing just 15 RBIs to break WMU's career record, currently held by former Bronco great and Major Leaguer Matt Mieske.

On the pitching side, Western Michigan tied for second in the nation in shutouts last season with seven, and also set a new school record for strikeouts. WMU brings back numerous arms from last year's staff, including right-hander Turner Doran, who led the team in ERA and nailed down three saves in 2024.
