OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Western Michigan junior center fielder
Tanner Mally was an All-America Honorable Mention selection by the College Baseball Foundation, it was announced on Wednesday.
Mally had an historic season for Western Michigan, hitting .446 to become the second Bronco ever to win the national batting title. He collected 87 hits and owned a .554 on-base percentage, both of which were single-season program records, and finished second in NCAA Division I in both on-base percentage and hits per game (1.74). The junior was also among the national leaders in hit by pitches (23, 27th) and runs per game (1.16, 47th), and ranked as the 18th-most difficult batter in the nation to strike out, fanning just 13 times in 195 at-bats.
The Lisle, Ill., native has racked up numerous accolades throughout the year, including being named an NCBWA Third Team All-American, as well as earning All-Region, All-MAC First Team, All-MAC Defensive Team, and Midseason All-American honors. He was also selected as a semifinalist for the Dick Howser Trophy, which is awarded annually to college baseball's top player.
