Sam Carlisle Signs Deal with New York Mets

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan redshirt junior right-hander Sam Carlisle has signed a free agent deal with the New York Mets, the club announced earlier this evening.

A native of Portage, Mich., Carlisle was a key part of Western Michigan's pitching staff this season, making 15 appearances and 14 starts on the hill for the Brown and Gold. The right-hander posted a 4.95 ERA, the 12th-best mark in the league, and dropped it down to 4.41 with a .242 opposing batting average in conference play. Carlisle led the Broncos in strikeouts with 67, and was third in the MAC with 10.05 strikeouts per nine. He was second on WMU in wins (4) and third in innings pitched (60.0).

Carlisle found a groove early on in MAC play, putting together a five-start stretch from March 14 to April 11 in which he struck out at least seven in each outing. The streak started at Ohio, where he limited the Bobcats to two runs on four hits with seven strikeouts in 6.0 innings to collect his first win for the Brown and Gold. Two weeks later against UMass, he one-hit the Minutemen over 7.0 shutout frames and racked up a career-high 13 strikeouts.

Following the season, Carlisle was named a CSC Academic All-District selection and was named to the Academic All-MAC Team.
