Tanner Mally Named an NCBWA All-American

DALLAS – Western Michigan junior center fielder Tanner Mally has been named an All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA). A Third Team honoree, Mally is WMU's first All-American since Tanner Allison in 2017.

Mally has led all of NCAA Division I in batting average since early March, and wrapped up the campaign with a .446 mark, WMU's highest batting average since Bill Guerrant hit .467 to win the national batting title in 1965. Mally is currently ranked second nationally with a .554 on-base percentage and in hits per game at 1.74. He set a Western Michigan single-season record with 87 hits (25th in NCAA DI) and is among the national leaders in hit by pitches (23, 26th) and runs per game (1.16, 49th), while also ranking as the 18th-toughest batter in the country to strike out.

Defensively, he posted a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage in center field, helping to anchor a WMU defense which finished second in the MAC and 33rd nationally with a .978 fielding percentage, which had the Broncos just percentage points away from setting a single-season program record.

The All-American honor adds to the litany of accolades collected by the Lisle, Ill., native this season, which includes being selected ABCA Midwest All-Region, All-MAC First Team, All-MAC Defensive Team, a Midseason All-American and earning a spot among the nation's best players as a semifinalist for the Dick Howser Trophy.
