Broncos Add Pair on National Signing Day

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan University men's basketball team and head coach Dwayne Stephens announced the addition of two student-athletes to the program on National Signing Day. WMU is set to welcome forward Michael Sulaka (Macomb, Mich.) and guard Brandon Muntu (Calgary, Alberta, Canada) to Kalamazoo in the fall of 2023. The duo will suit up for the Broncos beginning with the 2023-24 season.

Michael Sulaka • F • 6-9 • 215 • Macomb, Mich. • De La Salle
Sulaka will be headed across the state to join the Broncos after finishing up his senior season at De La Salle Collegiate High School in Warren, Mich. One of the top frontcourt players in the state, Sulaka averaged 12 points and 12 rebounds to help take the Pilots to an MHSAA Division I state championship last season. He also earned All-League and First Team All-State honors. The son of Ann and Larry Sulaka, he carries a 4.005 GPA.

"We are thrilled to welcome Michael to the Bronco family!" Coach Stephens said. "He is a versatile forward who is skilled, has a high basketball IQ and knows how to win. Michael is a great student and will be a valuable addition to our program!"

Brandon Muntu • G • 6-4 • 190 • Calgary, Alberta • Dohn Prep (Triton College)
Muntu is set to join the Broncos following his second season at Triton College in River Grove, Ill. In the first three games of the Trojans' season, the Calgary, Alberta, native is averaging 17.0 points and 5.0 rebounds, while shooting 52.9 percent from the floor and 44.0 percent from three-point range. In 2021-22, Muntu scored 7.6 points and averaged 3.9 boards to help Triton reach the NJCAA Final Four.

The guard finished his prep career at Dohn Prep Academy in Cincinnati. Earlier in his high school career, Muntu helped lead his team to a 2016-17 city championship and was the second-leading scorer in the country. A top-20 player in Canada, he has twice been invited to try out for the Canadian National Team, at both the U16 and U18 level.

"Brandon is a great addition to our program!" Coach Stephens said. "He is a winner who competes and works every day. He is a talented scorer who affects the game in many different ways. Brandon is a natural leader who embodies what a Bronco student-athlete is about off the court. We are excited to welcome him to the family!"
