KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan men's basketball team and head coach
Clayton Bates announced on Monday the addition for forward Mileek McMillian who spent the past four seasons at Valparaiso University.
"We welcome Mileek McMillan to the Bronco family with great enthusiasm," said Bates. Mileek is a versatile offensive player who can score in a variety of ways. He brings both experience and physicality to the defensive end of the floor as well."
"He has been extremely well coached in both high school and the collegiate level. Mileek will bring a veteran presence to our roster with 121 career games played and 66 starts."
McMillan played in 121 games at Valpo, starting 66 and averaged 4.2 points and 1.9 rebounds per game. McMillian is a career 41.7 percent shooter from the field to go along with a 33.1 percent three-point field goal percentage and a 71.3 free-throw percentage.
This past season McMillan played in 25 games, starting 13 and averaged 3.4 points, 1.6 rebounds and shot 33.0 percent from the field. During conference play McMillan averaged 3.3 points per game and had four blocks, three steals and eight three-pointers.
McMillan had a stellar junior campaign for the Crusaders as the forward was named to the MVC Most-Improved Team after upping his scoring average from 2.8 points per game as a sophomore to 8.8 points per game as a junior. McMillan finished fourth on the squad in scoring and started all 34 games for Valpo.
During his junior season McMillan knocked down 40 three-pointers and shot a stellar 42.3 percent from distance during conference play. In 2019-20 McMillan posted a career-high 20 points with six three-pointers in an overtime win at Drake. With six made three's McMillan became just the fourth Missouri Valley Conference player with six three's or more in a league game during the season.
Prior to Valparaiso McMillian played prep ball at Merrillville high school were as a junior averaged nearly seven rebounds per game for the Pirates. McMillian helped Merrillville to a 22-2 record that season. McMillan also played AAU for Indiana Elite and stood out at the Indiana Top 80 camp, being named the camp's Mr. Defender.
