WMU Returns Home for GOLD OUT Saturday against NIU

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Broncos fans are encouraged to wear GOLD as the Western Michigan men's basketball team returns to University Arena on Saturday, Feb. 29 for a match-up against Northern Illinois.

Scouting the Broncos
With three games remaining in the regular season WMU heads into Saturday's contest with an overall record of 11-17 and is 4-11 in Mid-American Conference play. The Broncos are looking to halt a five-game losing skid after falling at Ball State on Tuesday 71-61.

Keep the Streak Alive Against the Huskies
Western Michigan holds a 38-8 advantage over NIU inside University Arena and has won the last 13 contests against the Huskies at home.

Close Calls with the Huskies
It the series between WMU and NIU, nine of the last 10 games have been decided by 10 points or less. Of the 95 all-time meetings, 61 have been decided by 10 points or fewer.

Boost From the Bench
On Tuesday at Ball State, Western Michigan scored 42 points off the bench with 32 bench points coming in the second half. It was the seventh time since 2010 WMU has scored over 40 points off the bench.

Toliver was LUKE warm on Tuesday Night
It was a career night on Tuesday at Ball State for sophomore Luke Toliver who scored a career-high 12 points in 18 minutes. Toliver was 3-of-8 from the field to go along with a perfect 4-for-4 at the free-throw and two three-pointers.

Johnson Chasing 1,000
Redshirt forward Brandon Johnson looks to become the 44th member of WMU's 1,000-point club, needing just 58 points to do so. Johnson ranks second on the team this season with 15 points per game.

Free for a Reason
Junior Michael Flowers is shooting 85.7 percent from the free-throw line this season, which currently stands as the third highest free-throw percentage in a single-season in school history. Flowers 85.7 free-throw percentage ranks third in the MAC.

MAC Tournament Watch Begins
With three games left in the regular season WMU is the No.11 seed if the MAC Tournament were to begin. As the No.11 seed the Broncos would travel to No.6 seed Kent State on Monday, March 9. Following today's contest WMU has two games remaining against Eastern Michigan and Central Michigan.  

Scouting the Competition
Northern Illinois heads into Saturday's contest on a two-game win streak and has an overall record of 17-11 and 10-5 in conference play. The Huskies are coming off a thrilling 73-71 victory at Eastern Michigan on Tuesday.
The Huskies are led by guard Eugene German who leads the MAC at 20.4 points per game. Behind German is forward Lacey James at 8.9 points per game while leading the Huskies with 7.8 rebounds per contest.
