Men’s Basketball Hosts Rival Central Michigan Saturday

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – For the 144th time Western Michigan men's basketball and Central Michigan will meet on the hardwood as the Broncos host the Chippewas on Saturday, Feb. 1. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m. inside University Arena.

Enjoy the halftime entertainment as part of Alumni Day, former Western Michigan men's basketball greats will be honored on the court. Bronco alumni in attendance include David Kool, Brian Snider, AJ Avery and David Brown.

Scouting the Broncos
After a week off the Broncos return to action on the court with an overall record of 9-11 and 2-5 in Mid-American Conference play. WMU is led by the duo of junior Michael Flowers and redshirt junior Brandon Johnson who are each averaging over 15 points per game.

Home Sweet Home
WMU is 7-2 at home this season and is averaging 78.4 points per game while winning by an average margin of 10.4 points. The Bronco defense has been stellar inside University Arena, holding opponents to 68 points per game, five points below opponent's average on the season.

Against the Rival
WMU has won nine of the last 10 meetings against Central Michigan at home … head coach Steve Hawkins is 22-12 against CMU, the second most wins against a MAC school … WMU has lost four straight contests overall to CMU

White on Track
Freshman B. Artis White has scored 164 points this season, the 14th most by a freshman in a single-season under head coach Steve Hawkins. Darius Paul scored the most under Hawkins during his freshman campaign with 365.

Barrs Block
Freshman Chase Barrs has protected the rim for the Brown & Gold, ranking second on the team with 12 blocks. Barrs has registered four blocks over the past five games including a career-high two at Northern Illinois last Saturday.

We Can/Will Assist You
The Broncos have recorded double digit assists in four of the past five games, averaging 12.6 per contest. Flowers leads the Broncos and ranks eighth in the MAC with 3.5 assists per game.

Scouting the Competition
Central Michigan leads the MAC West heading into Saturday with an overall record of 11-8 and 4-2 in conference play. CMU is coming off a 71-66 victory over Ball State last Saturday with its Tuesday contest at Miami postponed.

The Chippewas have four players averaging in double figures led by Kevin McKay at 15.2 points per game. McKay also leads the team on the glass, averaging 6.3 rebounds per contest. CMU boasts the MAC's top offense, averaging 82.3 points per game while ranking fifth in the MAC with a .441 field goal percentage.
