Broncos Continue Road Play Saturday at Northern Illinois

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – For the second time this week the Western Michigan men's basketball team will hit the road to square off with Mid-American Conference west division foe Northern Illinois on Saturday, Jan. 25.

Scouting the Broncos
Western Michigan looks to get back to .500 on Saturday as the Broncos are now 9-10 on the season and 2-4 in MAC play. The Broncos are coming off a 90-79 loss at two-time defending MAC champion Buffalo on Tuesday.

Close Calls with the Huskies
It has been a tightly contested series between Western Michigan and Northern Illinois as eight of the past 10 match-ups have been decided by 10 points or less. Overall, 60 of the 94 meetings have been decided by 10 points or less.

Life on the Road in the MAC
The Broncos look to capture their first MAC road victory since Feb. 23, 2018 at Ball State and first victory at Northern Illinois since Feb. 9, 2014.

Junior Michael Flowers has been one of the best in the MAC at scoring the basketball this season, ranking third in the MAC at 17.8 points per game. Flowers also ranks 10th in the MAC in three-point field goal percentage (.393) and second in free-throw percentage (.865).

Dating back to last season, Flowers has scored in double figures in 23 straight games.

Chasing 1,000
The Broncos have two players with 1,000 career points in sight as Michael Flowers is just 82 points away eclipsing the 1K mark. Brandon Johnson is close behind needing just 186 points to do so.

The Young Fellas Love the MACtion
The freshmen duo of B. Artis White and Titus Wright have settled in to MAC play during the freshman campaigns. White is averaging 11.8 points per game against conference opponents while Wright is averaging 8.3 points. Wright notched a career-high 18 points on Tuesday at Buffalo.

Cleaning the Glass
Redshirt junior Brandon Johnson leads the Broncos and ranks sixth in the MAC with 8.2 rebounds per game. Johnson is averaging just over seven rebounds during conference play and has registered nine games this season with at least eight rebounds.

We Can/Will Assist You
Western Michigan has recorded double digit assists in each of the past four games and is averaging 12.6 per night over the past five games.

Scouting the Huskies
Northern Illinois heads into Saturday's contest with an overall record of 10-9 and 3-3 in conference play. The Huskies have split their last four contests and are coming off a 79-69 road victory at Kent State on Tuesday.

The Huskies are led by guard Eugene German who leads the MAC in scoring at 20 points per game. NIU's next best scorer is Lacy James at 9.4 points per game while leading the team on the glass at 7.5 rebounds per game.
