STOCKTON, Calif. – Western Michigan hockey senior captain Corey Schueneman has signed with the Stockton Heat, the American Hockey League affiliate of the National Hockey League's Calgary Flames.
Schueneman played four seasons with the Broncos, appearing in 144 games with 82 points on 14 goals and 68 assists. His 82 points is the most by a defenseman under WMU head coach Andy Murray. Schueneman had 21 points this season, playing in all 37 games.
"I'd like to thank my family, my coaches and my teammates for an unforgettable four years at Western Michigan," said Schueneman. "I've grown not only as a hockey player but as a person as well. I'm very excited to be joining Stockton and the Calgary Flames organization and look forward to my time with them."
The Milford, Mich., native also had tremendous success in the classroom Schueneman was a four-time National Collegiate Hockey Conference Academic All-Conference and a four-time NCHC Scholar Athlete. He was also WMU's nominee for NCHC Senior Scholar Athlete of the Year this season. He holds a 3.52 GP in sales and business marketing.
Schueneman joins classmates Colt Conrad (Toronto Marlies) and Jade McMullen (Kalamazoo Wings) in signing pro contracts since the conclusion of the season.
