KALAMAZOO, Mich. – With the fall season winding down, the Western Michigan golf team heads to Silver Lake, Ohio and the Silver Lake Country Club for the Mid-American Conference Fall Preview beginning on Monday.
The Broncos will play 36 holes on Monday and 18 more on Tuesday, both with 9 a.m. shotgun starts. The tournament is hosted by Akron, with Ball State, Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Ohio, Toledo and Youngstown State all joining WMU. The par 72 6,177-yard course will play host to the 2020 MAC Championship in April. Last season WMU finished tied for eighth at the tournament, then played at Purgatory Golf Club in Nobelsville, Ind.
Western Michigan heads into the tournament with a bit of momentum after its best showing of the early season at the Shirley Spork EMU Invitational last week. The team shot a season-low 916 to finish in fourth place, while senior Jasmine Chee shot a 54-hole personal best of 220 to take fifth overall. The tournament also saw the emergence of freshman Samantha Fish, who led the tournament in pars with 39. Fish was WMU's second finisher for the first time in her young career.
WMU has the MAC Fall Preview before heading to Birmingham, Mich., and the Birmingham Country Club for the Chippewa Invitational on Oct. 21-22. After that the Broncos are off until Feb. 3-4 when they head to Florida for the MAC Match Play Challenge hosted by Bowling Green.
