KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Western Michigan men's tennis team is set to compete in the 2018 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regionals Oct. 18-22 at the University of Notre Dame. The tournament will feature a play-in round, qualifying singles draw, main singles draw and a doubles draw to be played at Eck Tennis Pavilion in Notre Dame, Ind. and Lakeland Athletic Club in Niles, Mich. Regional doubles and singles champions and finalists will receive automatic berths to the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships.

Singles competition begins with two qualifying rounds on Thursday, Oct. 18, beginning at 8 a.m, leading up to the final eight qualifying for the main singles draw of 64 participants. Doubles will be played as an eight-game pro set for the tournament, with action beginning on the afternoon of Friday, Oct. 19. The tournament will conclude on Monday, with the semifinals and final round of singles competition followed by the doubles finals.

Competing in the main singles draw for WMU will include Jannik Opitz, Lenhard Haupt, and Matej Svjetlicic. In the qualifying singles round, Jack Randall, Peter Kuszynski, and Zac Faveri will represent the Brown & Gold. In doubles competition, Western Michigan will send four pairs to South Bend: Opitz & Haupt, Eric Olivarez & Nick Schnobel, Kuszynski & Randall, and Kennosuke Nouchi & Faveri.
