Game Quotes
WMU vs. FSU
3-11-11
Mike LeoneOn his goal:
“It was just a loose puck. I got it off the wall and to the net.”
On what went wrong
tonight:
“We just need to execute a little better. We didn't play a full 60 minutes.”
On what needs to be accomplished during tomorrows game:
“We just have to use our plays more to get the pucks to the net. We just have to be a lot better
tomorrow.”
Jerry KuhnOn Ferris State's goals:
“Bad goals. That's all there is to it. It was my fault.”
On what Ferris did differently:
“I think down low, they were doing what every other team has been doing. Grinding out. Trying to get guys in front to fire.”
On what needs to be accomplished during tomorrows game:
“Just play our game. We didn't play Bronco hockey tonight. We need to show up
tomorrow to play our game and we'll be alright.”
Ian SlaterOn Ferris State's overall play:
“They
came out prepared. We knew it would be a tight game like that, grinding
off the wall, and a lot of defensive pressure. It was a battle on the
ice. They played really well, and beat us in our barn. We knew this
series wasn't going to be won
tonight.”
On Ferris States defense in the 3rd period:
“It's
playoff hockey. It's going to be hard fought battles. We gave it our
all out there toward the end, but we didn't come 100 percent ready in
the first and second. They played a strong game down low, and their
defense was very strong. I don't think they completely shut us out; it's
more of the playoff mentality. It's clutch. You need clutch players to
step up, and they did that.”
“Yeah. I'm still kind of scrathing
my head. We had a lot of momentum at times, and we saw what we could do
down low. Offensively, we weren't there completely
tonight.”
On what Slater told his team after the loss:
“There's
no reason to get down right now. We didn't get those points that we
needed. It's playoff hockey, we have to play the best hockey of our
season. We can't sit down and sulk. We need to dial in and take it one
game at a time. There's no reason to sit back, we need to re-group, and
come together for
tomorrow.
We respond to adversity and we've proved that throughout the season.
We're going to be able to respond, and its what we fully expect with
our leadership.”
Coach
Jeff BlashillInitial thoughts on the game;
I
thought Ferris State did a very good job. They limited our chances. At
the end of the night, we're going to have to score more than one goal to
win hockey games. I thought their urgency was a bit better than ours,
and that's going to have to be different
tomorrow night.”
On Ferris States defense:
“I
don't think anything outside of the normal. They have a number of very
good defenseman. They're very well coached, and they take advantage of
their speed. They're right there up there with Michigan and Notre Dame
in terms of speed. As a result, they got on the pucks more quickly than
we did. I think our teams speed is going to have to show
tomorrow night.”
On the overall team feeling of the lost:
“I
think initially they're down. It's part of sports. We're going to have
to put it behind us and win. It happened a few weeks ago when we played
Notre Dame on a Friday, and we came back and played one of the best
games of our season on Saturday. We're going to have to do the same
thing
tomorrow night.”
On what needs to be worked on for
tomorrow:
“At
this time of year, it's not as much X's and O's. It's more urgency.
Theirs is coming out good, but ours is going to have to come out
better.”
