Derek Roehl
On his goal:
“It was a broken up play. Someone kicked it up to the point. I just turned around and waited, and it ended up on my stick.”
On differences between tonight's game and Friday's game:
“We came a lot more prepared. Friday, we didn't do that. We needed to get the momentum back.”
On offensive production from other players:
“It's
big, especially this time of year. We have some injuries, and we're
going to need everyone to step up here if we want to make a run.”
On what it will take to get a run:
“We need to come to play every night, and play our best hockey.”
Jerry Kuhn
On Western's defense:
“This morning, we had video and we talked about it. We created more space for our D to move the puck around.”
On the breakaway at the end of the second period:
“It
was a bad bounce and a save I had to make. It might have helped the
momentum, it might not have. I thought in the back of my head with the
guy coming out, 'I better not get a breakaway with five seconds left,'
but it happened.”
Thoughts on his senior year:
“To be honest, no, but I'm taking it all in stride one day at a time. It feels good. It's great to be a part of.”
J.J. Crew
Thoughts on his goal:
“The line made a great chip, and I got a piece of it. I don't know what happened after that, I just shot it and it went in.”
On injured players:
“It's
unfortunate that guys are hurt, but that's when other guys need to step
up. I'm happy to be in the lineup every day and work hard for
opportunities.”
On other players stepping up:
“It's huge.
It takes pressure off the guys who normally score. It's good to get
different goal scorers every night. It's good motivation for everyone.
We're clicking together and it's helping.”
Coach Jeff Blashill
“We
just talked about how they came back after a night where we weren't as
sharp as we needed to be. I thought it was a great 60 minute effort.
Obviously, it was still a struggle, and Bowling Green played extremely
well, but I thought our guys determination was very good.”
On missed chances:
“I
still thought we had good chances. We had some good ones in the first
as well. We got a little sloppy in the second. Our power play let us
down for sure through the first and second. I did think we had some big
chances early, we just didn't capitalize on them.”
On shooting:
“I talked to their head coach this morning,
and he's very good. When he stops the puck, he does a good job with it.
It's not a fluke at all. I thought it was a battle of two very good
goaltenders.”
On the unbeaten streak:
“Not from us. It's
nothing we talk about. It doesn't benefit us to talk about it at all.
You want to win every single game that you play. Every game we have from
here on out is going to be critical. We're trying to get better.”
On setting a new unbeaten streak record:
“Any
time we can win games, it's good. But you don't judge seasons midway
through the year, you judge them when they're over. We want to continue
to go out and win hockey games. The positive thing is that the people of
Kalamazoo are seeing that we can be successful and people are coming
out and supporting us.”
On players stepping up:
“Your top
players aren't going to score every night. I thought Max Campbell had a
good game and had chances but didn't score. I thought Greg Squires had a
good game and had chances but didn't score. I thought Chase Balisy had a
good game, but other guys have to contribute. For the most part, we ran
four lines. Our guys stepped up, and we're going to need that
especially until we get our full lineup back.”
