WMU vs. Ohio State Quotes 1-14

Jerry Kuhn

On the atmosphere:

“We heard before the game that the students were wrapped around the building, so we were pretty excited.”

On more of a buildup compared to other games:

“No, it's just another game. As soon as I saw all the fans out there during warm ups I kind of got a little nervous.”

Blocked shots by team

“It's definitely a big thing. I know in the first period we had a few, and that's what we need and it's what we've been getting. We're out there playing for each other, the bronco emblem, and the university.”

Chase Balisy

On the atmosphere:

“The fans got us going. Seeing them all up there 45 minutes before the game got us off to a good start.”

On his goal:

“It was huge. They were dominating us for a while. We just got a good break, and they gave me a good pass.”

On minimizing penalties:

“Discipline and low turnovers was key. We can't turn the puck over.”

Coach Jeff Blashill

On emotions before the game:

“I think they had a feeling that there would be a real good crowd. We'd heard that throughout the week, and they came out excited to give the crowd a real good effort. I thought they came out with a lot of energy and it was a very good hockey game.”

On crashing the net:

“We'd like to crash the net more. I will say this; they are a team that really protects the house. We knew we were really going to have to work to get to those areas and really win the rebounds.”

On minimizing penalties:

“We really work hard to not take penalties. In practice we try to change our guys habits. It doesn't always translate. I thought the refs did a good job as not to over call things. I thought it was a fairly cleanly played game.”

On Chase's play:

“Chase has been very good all year. His line did really well. Chase is getting a lot of ice time as a freshman, so we expect a lot out of him.”

On Dane Walters:

He's what I term a winning hockey player. He wins puck battles, he's strong, he had a huge blocked shot, and he has offensive abilities. I also want to add that Ryan Watson did outstanding tonight. Sometimes those things don't show up on the stat sheet, but I thought he did very well.”

On preparing for tomorrow's game:

“I think we need to do a better job in our d-zone. We need to do a better job of creating things when the puck does come to our defense, and get into the scrums a little sooner.”
