ERIE, Pa. -- Western Michigan goalie
Nick Pisellini made 28 saves to earn his first shutout with the Brown & Gold as WMU defeated Mercyhurst 1-0 at the Mercyhurst Ice Center on Saturday night to complete the series sweep.
After scoring two goals in the first 3:30 last night, defense and goaltending shined during the first period.
Nick Pisellini made 10 saves and helped kill off two penalties, while his counterpart for Mercyhurst made 11 saves.
It was all goaltending again in the second period with Pisellini making 11 saves and Jordan Tibbett making 16. The Broncos had three chances on a power play and also killed off a Laker advantage but neither team could put it in the net.
Western Michigan finally got on the board early in the third period.
Dennis Brown fired a shot from the left circle with Tibbett making the save. He was unable to control the rebound and it bounced to
Kyle O'Kane. O'Kane took advantage of Tibbett being out of position and banged it into the open net to give WMU a 1-0 lead and the win. Brown tallied his first collegiate assist on the goal and
Shane Berschbach picked up the second helper of his career.
Western Michigan continues its road trip when they head to Canton, N.Y. to take on St. Lawrence on Friday and Saturday.
