Box Score

NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- Notre Dame managed a series split against Western Michigan, posting a 3-0 victory at the Joyce Center in Central Collegiate Hockey Association action.  WMU won Friday's contest, 4-3, in Kalamazoo.

Following a scoreless first period, the Irish struck 1:46 into the middle frame on Wes O'Neill's power play goal.  WMU's was presented a super power play for two minutes in the period, but didn't convert.

O'Neill setup ND's second power play goal at 5:59 of the third period, finding Mike Walsh behind the net, who banked a shot off the pads of goaltender Daniel Bellissimo.  ND (4-9-1/3-6-1 CCHA) added an insurance goal on Jason Paige's second goal in as many nights.

Bellissimo finished with 28 saves while at the other end, David Brown recorded his fifth career shutout with 25 stops.

“They converted twice on the power play, which was the difference tonight,” said WMU coach Jim Culhane.  “I thought we competed well against a Notre Dame team that is tough to beat at home.”

Western Michigan (4-8-2/4-5-1 CCHA) is off next week during final exams before resuming league play at Northern Michigan (Dec. 17-18).
