Four Broncos Garner Post-Season Accolades

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Sophomore Patrice Impelido, a midfielder on Western Michigan's women's soccer team, earned a spot on the Mid-American Conference All-Conference second team, announced by the league at its annual banquet this evening. WMU also announced its postseason awards today, with senior defender Valerie McIntyre garnering Most Valuable Player honors, while sophomore defender Hillary Wernlund was named Most Improved Player and freshman midfielder Nicole Dulyea was Newcomer of the Year.

Impelido was honored by the league for the second straight year, having been a member of the MAC All-Freshman team last season. She concluded her sophomore campaign tied for the team lead in scoring with four points on one goal and two assists. Impelido recorded the game-tying goal in a 1-1 (2OT) tie at Akron Oct. 19 and assisted on goals at Missouri Sept. 2 and the first goal of teh game at Bowling Green Sept. 30.

McIntyre just completed her four-year career with the Broncos, serving as a team captain. She started in each of the 15 contests she played this season, anchoring the WMU defense. The backfield showed dramatic improvement as the season wore on, giving up just three goals in the final five games of the season. McIntyre finished the year with one point, an assist on the game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory at Ohio Oct. 21.

Wernlund started each of the 16 games she played in the WMU backfield this season, helping the defense post five shutouts, including two against league opponents Ohio and Central Michigan.

Dulyea earned a spot in the starting lineup immediately, starting 16 of her 17 games played. She finished the year tied for fourth in scoring with three points on a goal and an assist. Dulyea scored the Broncos' first goal at Missouri Sept. 2 and assisted on a goal against Buffalo Oct. 5.
