LANSING, Mich. -- The Western Michigan University women's golf team will participate in its second tournament of the fall season this Sunday and Monday.

The Broncos won't have to travel far for their next tournament of the 2026-27 season as they return to the Mary Fossum Invitational for the first time in nine years. WMU last participated in the tournament hosted by in-state competitor Michigan State Spartans during the 2017-18 season. This will be the 13th year that the Brown and Gold are in the Mary Fossum Invitational field since the program began in 1998.

Michigan State is hosting the Mary Fossum Invitational at Forest Akers Golf Course in Lansing on Sunday, September 20 and Monday, September 21. Along with Western Michigan, fourteen teams are slated to participate in the tournament for its 39th season. The Broncos will see some familiar competition at Forest Akers in Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Oakland, and Ohio, who all competed in the A-Ga-Ming Invitational two weeks prior. Also participating in WMU's upcoming tournament are hosts Michigan State, Delaware, Findlay, FIU, Grand Valley State, Illinois State, Kennesaw State, Northern Illinois, Rutgers, and Youngstown State.

In the Brown and Gold's first tournament of the season, Western Michigan tied for fifth place at 900 (+36) strokes at the A-Ga-Ming Invitational. The Broncos also had multiple Top 25 individual finishes and moved up one spot in the team rankings during the final day. Over the holiday weekend, WMU shot rounds of 298-300-302 for fifth along with Murray State and Loyola Chicago. Leading the team for the Brown and Gold from round one to round three was sophomore Danielle Daniy, carding a 56-hole career low of 223 (+7). Daniy ended the tournament tied for 16th with rounds of 74-73-76. Right behind Daniy was freshman Annie Flavin with an overall score of 224 (+8) at 19th while junior Saanvi Venkatesh rounded out Western Michigan's Top 25 finishes, ending the weekend with 226 (+10) strokes. 

Teams will play the Forest Akers West course during the Mary Fossum Invite on Sunday and Monday. The course has a par of 72 over 6,368 yards of play originally designed by Bruce Matthews in 1958. Forest Akers West was redesigned by Arthur Hills in 1991, 13 years after the first Mary Fossum Invite to its current layout. The course has hosted multiple premiere amateur tournaments including the NCAA Women's Regional in 2024, 2005, and 1997.

The Broncos will tee off on Sunday morning at 9 a.m in a shotgun start. Five players are starting for WMU in their second tournament in Venkatesh, Flavin, Daniy, junior Lauren Lupinek and freshman Abigail Stendahl. Fans can follow along with the Brown and Gold throughout the tournament through live scoring.
