PLEASANT VALLEY, Iowa – The Western Michigan University women's golf team improved on last year's finish at the Diane Thomason Invitational by one spot on Tuesday afternoon.
In 2025 at the tournament hosted by the Iowa Hawkeyes, the Broncos finished 12
th of 16 teams. This year WMU moved up a spot in the smaller competitive field to place 11
th as a team at the Diane Thomason Invitational. Over three rounds the Brown and Gold had a final stroke total of 948 (+96). Western Michigan carded rounds of 322-310-316 at the Davenport Country Club.
Sophomore
Danielle Daniy moved up 17 spots in the final round of the tournament for the Broncos highest finish at 36
th. Daniy shot only one above par in her last round of the week with a 73 after rounds of 84 and 76 on Monday for a stroke total of 233 (+20). Junior
Lauren Lupinek finished two strokes behind Daniy after combining for a 235 (+22) with rounds of 82-75-78.
Junior
Saanvi Venkatesh finished tied for 54
th at the Diane Thomason Invitational with a total score of 241 (+28). The junior carded rounds of 77-82-82 for the third lowest WMU total. Freshman
Annie Flavin had two strokes more than Venkatesh through Monday and Tuesday with a 243 (+32) as she recorded rounds of 81-79-83.
Senior
Bella Brooks ended the tournament with a total of 248 (+35) after rounds of 82-80-86. While freshman
Abigail Stendahl rounded out the competing Brown and Gold golfers with an individual finish at 252 (+39) strokes.
The host Hawkeyes won the team portion of the Diane Thomason Invitational with an 878 (+23) final. Iowa shot its best round of the tournament this afternoon at 290 strokes to improve on its first two rounds of 293 and 295. On the individual side, Bowling Green's Addison Kartusch and St. Thomas' Kathryn VanArragon tied for the top spot. Both upperclassmen shot a stroke under par, finishing the tournament at 212.
Western Michigan returns home for its annual fall tournament at The Moors Golf Club in Portage, Mich. The Broncos will host Butler, Dayton, and IU Indy in the three round tournament in two weeks. The Bronco Fall Classic is set for Monday, October 12 and Tuesday, October 13.
