Golf finishes 10th at the Golfweek/Stifle Spring Challenge

PAWLEY'S ISLAND, S.C. -- The Western Michigan women's golf team placed 10th out of 19 teams at the Golfweek/Stifle Spring Challenge this week.

After carding rounds of 301-295-310 during the Golfweek/Stifle Spring Challenge, the Broncos placed 10th with a score of 903 (+54) in their penultimate regular season tournament of the season. Senior Megha Vallabhaneni led WMU across all three days with rounds of 69-74-78 for a final score of 221 (+8) to be tied for 13th. Vallabhaneni was one of two Brown and Gold golfers who had a round under par during the Spring Challenge to keep Western Michigan in the top half of the standings. 

Sophomore Lauren Lupinek was the other Western Michigan golfer with a round under par in the second round of the tournament. Lupinek carded a 70 on Tuesday while also having rounds of 75 and 78 for a final score of 223 (+10) to finish the week tied for 20th. She was followed by senior Jenna Hayes, who improved her individual position by 19 places in the final round on Wednesday. Hayes posted rounds of 80-76-74 for a score of 230 (+17) to tie for 45th overall. 

Freshman Danielle Daniy was the next Bronco on the individual leaderboard with a tournament score of 235 (+22). Daniy had her best round on Tuesday with a 75 (+4), while also having rounds of 77 and 83 over the past three days. Junior Macy Beeson was WMU's last player counting to the team score at the Spring Challenge. Beeson had rounds of 82-79-80 to finish with a score of 241 (+28). Junior Bella Brooks also competed in the Spring Challenge as an individual participant. Brooks ended the tournament with rounds of 88-86-87 for a score of 261.

Middle Tennessee was the winning team of the Golfweek/Stifle Spring Challenge at 289-290-297 for a score of 876 (+24). For winning the tournament, the Blue Raiders have earned a spot in the 2026 Haskins Women's Intercollegiate from October 11-13 in Columbus, Georgia. In the individual player leaderboard, Samford's Grace Engle and Charleston Southern's Katie Stephens tied for first with scores of 208 (-5). 

The Brown and Gold will play in their final regular season tournament in a little over a week at the Therese Hession Buckeye Invitational hosted by Ohio State. The tournament at the Ohio State University golf course will take place on April 17 and April 18 with a field of 14 teams.
