Golf set for MAC Championship at Firestone Country Club

AKRON, Ohio -- The Western Michigan women's golf team begins postseason play tomorrow in the Rubber City.

After completing a practice round on Saturday at Firestone Country Club, the Broncos will face off with the rest of the Mid-American Conference women's golf teams on Sunday morning. The three round, three day championship will be played on a 72-par, 6,137-yard course beginning at 10:10 a.m. for WMU.

The Brown and Gold will be led off on Sunday morning by junior Macy Beeson at hole 10's tee box. Western Michigan will also have freshman Danielle Daniy teeing off at 10:18 a.m., senior Jenna Hayes at 10:26 a.m., sophomore Lauren Lupinek at 10:34 a.m., and senior Megha Vallabhaneni at 10:42 a.m. Freshman Lea Lemieux will also be on the course over the next three days as an alternate for the Broncos. WMU will play the first round paired with the Ohio Bobcats. 

Last year at the 2025 MAC Championship the Brown and Gold finished 10th with a 938 at the Delaware Country Club in Muncie, Ind. Vallabhaneni was Western Michigan's top finisher at the MAC Championships for the third year in a row in 2025. As a junior, Vallabhaneni tied for 18th with a 229 (+13) while having four of her team-best eight birdies in her final round, shooting a 75 (+3). 

To finish off the 2026 regular season, the Broncos placed 11th of 14 teams in the Therese Hession Buckeye Invitational surrounding by Top 100 competition. WMU's best round on the Scarlet Course of the Ohio State University Golf Club came on Friday afternoon as the team carded a 316 (+28). The Brown and Gold ended their last regular season tournament with a score of 957 (+93) after rounds of 324-316-317 through the weekend. Western Michigan did place ahead of fellow MAC teams Ohio and Toledo in Columbus being led by Vallabhaneni placing 38th with a score of 236 (+20). 

Overall, 50 players from all 10 league teams will be in action at the Firestone Country Club, with Eastern Michigan entering as the top seed after finishing the regular season ranked 19th in the national rankings. Kent State is the No. 2 seed and ranked 28th, followed by No. 3 Ball State (141), No. 4 Bowling Green (158), No. 5 Northern Illinois (177), No. 6 Akron (184), No. 7 Western Michigan (196), No. 8 Toledo (197), No. 9 Ohio (207) and No. 10 Central Michigan (208).

Teams will be repaired for the second and third rounds following the results of the day prior.
