KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan head men's basketball coach Kahil Fennell has announced the signing of Flint native Rob Lee Jr., a 6-2 transfer guard from Lamar University.
Lee is set to arrive in Kalamazoo after spending his junior season at Lamar, where he was one of the top newcomers in the Southland Conference. He started 30 of the 31 games he appeared in for the Cardinals and netted double-digit points 24 times on the way to 16.2 points per game, the seventh-best mark in the league. The 6-2 guard also ranked in the top-10 of the SLC in three-pointers made per game (2.4, 4th) and field goal percentage (.441, 6th). One of his top performances came in a victory over Houston Christian, in which he tallied a season-high 31 points and added a season-high seven rebounds which helped him claim Southland Player of the Week honors.
The Flint native spent the first two seasons of his collegiate career at Wayne State. In his sophomore campaign, he averaged 16.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists per contest for the Warriors and was an All-GLIAC First Team selection. He netted 10.3 points per game as a freshman at WSU on the way to being named the GLIAC Freshman of the Year. He was also a GLIAC All-Tournament selection as a freshman and earned an Academic All-Conference honor.
Lee graduated from Beecher High School in Flint, where he was a four-year letterwinner and two-time state champion for head coach Marquise Gray. A team captain as a senior, he netted a game-high 29 points in the MHSAA Division 3 state championship game to lead the Buccaneers to the title. A two-time First Team All-State selection, he was named the 2023 MLive Flint Player of the Year after averaging 29.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists per contest.
