KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan gymnastics team improved to 13-4 on the season after a 194.625-193.475 win over Illinois State at University Arena on Friday night.
A Bronco finished at the top of every event, with the highlight of the night coming on floor. Junior
Brooke Gelesko tied her career-high with a 9.875 to claim first place.
Julie Korfhage and
Hannah Milton tied for second with 9.850's, while freshman
Molly Sabin matched her career-best with a 9.825 to take third. Sophomore
Aliyah Kelly wrapped up WMU's five scorers with a 9.800 to tie for fourth place. Combined, the Broncos posted a season-best score of 49.200.
Gelesko also took first on vault with a 9.800, with sophomore
Kennedy Cooper tying for second place with a 9.775. Freshman Bella Ciolfi and senior
Makenna King tied for third with 9.750's.
Samuelson claimed the top spot on bars for the third time this season, scoring a 9.875. Korfhage and King tied for third with 9.800's. Korfhage then tied for first on beam with a 9.800, followed by Samuelson in second with a 9.750 and
Casey Mooney tying for third with a 9.725.
Western Michigan hosts Kent State for its second podium meet of the weekend on Sunday at 12 p.m. The Broncos will celebrate the careers of seniors
Makenna King and
Sidnei Heubach at the conclusion of the meet.
