DEKALB, Ill. -- For the second straight meet, the Western Michigan gymnastics team posted its best score of the season after picking up wins over Northern Illinois and West Virginia at NIU on Friday night.
WMU finished with a final score of 195.575, besting WVU's 194.775 and the Huskies' 193.700. With the victories, the Broncos improve to 8-4 on the season and are 2-1 in MAC competition.
The Broncos started off on bars, posting a season-best score of 48.950.
Reese Samuelson took first place with a 9.850, while
Julie Korfhage finished tied for second with a 9.825.
Kate Parks had her best score as a Bronco, posting a 9.800 to finish in third.
On beam, Samuelson was the team's top finisher with a score of 9.800 to take second place. Julie Korfage finished right behind her with a 9.775 as the team posted a score of a 48.275. WMU had its highest team score on floor this season with a 49.075.
Brooke Gelesko had a career-high score of 9.850 to lead the team, while Korfhage and
Hannah Milton each scored a 9.825.
Molly Sabin also had a career-high with a score of 9.800.
Western Michigan finished the meet strong on vault, with freshman
Isabella Ciolfi tying for first place with a career-high score of 9.825.
Kennedy Cooper and Gelesko both had scores of 9.800.
Western Michigan heads back on the road next week, traveling to Iowa State to take on the Cyclones on Friday at 8 p.m.
