KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan track and field team will battle at the Indoor MAC Championships this weekend at Central Michigan University. The championship event kicks off on Feb. 27 at 10 a.m. and concludes with the award ceremony at 4 p.m. on Feb. 28.
RECORD BREAKERS
The Brown and Gold have done damage this season, setting two school records, while having 11 other top-10 marks in school history.
Soniya Jones broke the 60-meter dash school record at the Meyo Invitational, while the DMR squad took down the program-best time the same day.
The Broncos have also seen top-10 marks from
Laurine Elisa Marimon,
Ava Kurczewski,
Sierra Sommers,
Mabinty Kebe,
Lane Hagens,
Lillian Zelasko,
Lily Overton and Jones.
TOP OF THE MAC
Western Michigan has some of the top performers in the MAC going into the conference meet this weekend. Among those is
Soniya Jones, who has the fastest 60-meter dash time of the season (7.41). She is also fourth in the 200-meter dash (24.46).
The DMR squad is third in the conference with a time of 11:32.70, and
Sandra Ferrari is third in the long jump with a top leap of 5.98 meters this season. She is also seventh in the 60-meter hurdles (8.56.)
Mabinty Kebe is fourth in the same event with a top time of 8.46. Not to be outdone,
Lane Hagens (3rd, 14.85 meters) and
Sierra Sommers (5th, 14.38 meters) are among the league's best in the shot put.
