KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Soniya Jones stole the show on day two of the MAC Championships for Western Michigan, earning the 60-meter dash MAC Championship. She crossed the finish line in a time of 7.41, which matches her school record mark.
The Broncos finished sixth, as a team, collecting 45 points over the course of the two-day event. Kent State, Akron, Bowling Green, Toledo and Ball State made up the top five.
The shot put was a great event for the Broncos, as
Lane Hagens posted eight points with a second-place finish. She had a top mark of 14.19 meters.
Sierra Sommers just missed out on scoring, having a throw of 13.32 meters.
Laurine Elisa Marimon was fantastic in the triple jump, recording a second-place finish with a PR leap of 12.62 meters. In the one mile,
Ava Kurczewski was able to notch five points. She finished fourth with a time of 4:49.67.
Moving to the hurdles,
Mabinty Kebe and
Sandra Ferrari were on top of their game. Kebe was third with a time of 8.53, while Ferrari was just behind her in fifth with a time of 8.57.
Then, in the 3K,
Lillian Zelasko was able to register and eighth-place finish with a time of 9:38.90.
Lily Overton just missed the cut to score, finishing with a time of 9:40.68.
To conclude the day, Western Michigan's 4x400 team just missed out on scoring. The quartet finished 10th with a time of 3:52.80.
