ALLENDALE, Mich. -- Mabinty Kebe's big day on the track headlined a strong outing for the Western Michigan track and field team at the GVSU Big Meet today.
Kebe sprinted her way up the record book, claiming the third best 60-meter hurdles time in program history. She crossed the finish line in a time of 8.46 to finish second in the event.
Sandra Ferrari claimed fifth place with a time of 8.70.
Soniya Jones continued her strong senior season, winning the 60-meter dash prelims with a time of 7.44. She did not compete in the final. A little bit later,
Laurine Elisa Marimon and
Anichka Malachi finished first and second, respectively, in the triple jump. Marimon had a top leap of 12.20 meters, while Malachi posted a jump of 11.53 meters.
Sticking with the jumps,
Layla Wallace won the long jump with a top mark of 5.47 meters. Malachi wasn't too far behind her, nabbing third with a jump of 5.46 meters. As the day continued, the throws group took center stage.
Lane Hagens finished fifth in the invite portion of the shot put. She had a top throw of 14.85 meters.
Tess Van Dyk claimed ninth with a throw of 13.41 meters. In the open section of the event,
Sierra Sommers was able to place eighth with a mark of 13.42 meters.
Going back to the sprints,
Mickaliliah Vassell was great in the 200-meter dash, posting a season-best time of 25.54. Moving to the distance events, WMU dominated the 3K. In the open event,
Kaelin Hughes finished second with a PR time of 9:49.29, while
Lara Machado Pereira posted a PR time of 9:50.73 to finish third.
Madison Zarembski (9:57.54) and
Larissa McGrath (10:18.92) also had PR's in the event.
In the 3K invite event,
Ava Kurczewski (9:35.68),
Lillian Zelasko (9:36.48) and
Lily Overton (9:39.03) all recorded personal-best times. Then, in the one mile,
Madison Clor was able to collect a season-best time of 5:11.92.
Lastly, in the 800,
Emma Henkel notched a PR time of 2:13.19, while
Rebekah Asselin (2:14.36) and
Joy Evans (2:14.86) registered season-best marks.

The Broncos will compete in the MAC Indoor Championship on Feb. 27-28. Central Michigan is hosting the conference event.
