MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- The Western Michigan track and field team posted strong results on the opening day of the Indoor MAC Championships, including
Lillian Zelasko, who earned a sixth-place finish in the 5K.
Zelasko put three points on the board for the Broncos, finishing the 5K with a PR time of 16:35.12.
Madison Zarembski was also strong in the event, taking 12th with a time of 17:11.62
Mabinty Kebe and
Sandra Ferrari dominated the 60-meter hurdles, with both advancing to tomorrow's final. Kebe won the entire prelim with a time of 8.47, while Ferrari had the fourth fastest time of 8.57.
In the 60-meter dash,
Soniya Jones sprinted her way into tomorrow's final, claiming the second fastest team in the prelims. She crossed the finish line in a time of 7.48.
Ava Kurczewski was also strong in the one mile, advancing to tomorrow's final with a PR time of 4:48.22.
Lily Overton just missed out on qualifying, claiming 14th place with a PR time of 4:55.26.
To close out the night, the DMR squad of
Kaelin Hughes,
Joy Evans,
Rebekah Asselin and
Lara Machado Pereira finished just outside the podium, claiming ninth with a time of 12:05.20.

The Broncos will conclude the championship meet tomorrow at Central Michigan. The first event for the Brown and Gold begins at 10 AM.
